Let’s Talk About our Non-Profit Benefactors

We recently published a press release to our website but most of you probably missed it so I’m sharing it with you through this blog post.

SUGARBABY EVENTS, LLC, FOUNDER AND PRODUCER OF THE 2012 CHESTER COUNTY JAZZ FESTIVAL announces The Chester County Food Bank and the Stephen Chandler Ericson Foundation as benefactors of the Festival.

The Chester County Food Bank:  The Chester County Food Bank is located in Downingtown, PA and services over 68 food cupboard programs across Chester County from Oxford to Spring City and from Parkesburg to Devon. The Food Bank has several programs e.g. Senior Box Program, Youth Backpack Program, and Growing & Gleaning Program. They also provide nutrition education and outreach to the community. Their vision is to be the primary organization that alleviates hunger and creates pathways to improve health and education in order to reduce poverty in Chester County. I bet you didn’t know that the Food Bank will distribute 1.2 million pounds of food in 2011.  I bet you also didn’t know that there every weekend they provide healthy, non-perishable food to over 500 children of low-income families, but the most significant number that I could not get out of my head is that everyday more than 70,000 people in Chester County go to bed hungry, so the people of Chester County need your help and the Chester County Food Bank has taken a giant step in supporting that number.    Learn more at: The Chester County Food Bank

The Stephen Chandler Ericson Foundation:  This foundation was founded in 1984. Stephen was a teenager, playing soccer and ready to score a goal when he was struck by lightning. Five days later he lost his battle and died. Stephen’s accident received national media attention and people from all over began to inquire about donations in his honor and memory. His parents decided to establish the Stephen Chandler Ericson Scholarship Fund to be awarded annually to a senior graduating from high school in the West Chester area, going to a college, university, or trade school. The first scholarship was awarded in May of 1985 and continues to this day.   When I first met with Cynthia who is Stephen’s sister I knew very little about her or her foundation.  During a radio show she was hosting we got to talking a bit more about her foundation and after knowing the story around Stephen and witnessing the passion and compassion that the foundation has we just had to find a way to help.  Learn more at: The Stephen Chandler Ericson Foundation

There are so many worthy non-profits that we interviewed in Chester County who need and deserve financial and volunteer support, but we feel very good about the two non-profits that were selected as benefactors of the 2012 Chester County Jazz Festival. It is our goal to raise money, awareness, and increase the spotlight on these two very worthy non-profits. Please visit our social media presence often to keep up to date with how we are supporting our selected non-profits and don’t be afraid to reach out to them directly, they would love to hear from you and discuss how you can help.
